Thai Origin — Sunnyside

Gray Point Thai has recently closed, and in its place is Thai Origin, where we went tonight though we originally intended to go to Gray Point Thai. The difference in interior is striking. The once soothing orange walls have been painted stark white and the extravagant Buddha statues have been down-scaled considerably. Also, an attempt to warm the place using a giant fan had the exact opposite effect, since it was blowing cold air on our wet clothes (it's pissing rain tonight.)

My BF ordered crispy spring rolls and a pork chop, but the waiter came back and informed us that they were all out of the spring rolls. Which was a little weird because we were the only patrons there and it was only about 6:30 pm. Instead he chose the calamari. I asked for shumai and basil udon noodles. We sat and listened to the boombox playing Herbie Hancock for a while, a welcome change from the shitty TV that was always on at Gray Point, until our appetizers came.

No chopsticks, which made eating the calamari slightly difficult, but he was still happy with it. My dumplings were chewy, salty, attractive little purses. The entrees did not fare as well: the pork chop he deemed way too fatty and my udon noodles... well, I ordered them because the menu said they were spicy, and I am getting sick, so it may not be fair for me to complain that they were too spicy. However, here I am several hours later feeling like my mouth might still be mildly on fire. So, they were too spicy.

We walked back in the rain and decided we would both go back and that we maybe liked it better than Gray Point. The place just needs a little time to get its sea legs.

Also, the website is really cute.
